The Therapeutic Process

Chrysalis Counseling & Coaching will work collaboratively with you to achieve the change you desire. The following step-by-step process allows us to follow your progress together

Assessment:

In this appointment, we will explore your life history and determine your current levels of functioning, so that we can set goals and create an action plan that will address your particular needs. During this assessment we will also discuss your fears, expectations, and concerns – we want you to feel comfortable and confident in the treatment approach.

Therapy Sessions:

As we progress through the counseling sessions, we will work towards meeting your stated goals. Expect an atmosphere that is safe, supportive, honest, and sometimes challenging. I want to really learn what you are experiencing, and what may be troubling you. The counseling process may sometimes uncover uncomfortable emotions- but that is okay - we will address them, so that you can move forward. In our therapy sessions, you will learn new skills, challenge old beliefs and remove the barriers that hinder your growth. I occasionally give my clients homework; for example I may give you a short reading assignment, or ask you to keep a journal of your feelings during the week.

Terminating Therapy:

Several things will determine when we are done with our therapy sessions. First of all, did you achieve your goals we stated in your treatment plan? Did you achieve any goals that you did not initially expect, but are now benefiting your life? If so, then we will begin to work towards the end of your therapy, with the awareness that if you find that the need arises, you can return for additional work in the future.
